What are we currently learning in K5?
In ELA, we will continue to work on reading more difficult decodable books, adding plural endings and other concepts. We will keep sending home books for review of sight words and sounding out words. We will continue to work on answering questions about what we are reading, such as discussing characters and events from the story. We will continue to practice writing stories that students should be able to reread to us. We are looking for students to write stories that contain characters, a setting, a problem, and a solution. They should stay on topic and keep working on writing sentences using sounds they hear and sight words they know as well as label their pictures to match.
Don’t forget to practice your word wall lists!

I can answer questions about stories that I read.
I can tell you all my letter names and letter sounds.
I can clap out syllables in words.
I can tell if two words have the same beginning, middle or ending sound.
I can fill in missing beginning, middle, or ending sounds in words.
I can read all of our sight words from lists 1, 2, 3, and 4.
I can tell you characters, settings, & story events.
I can tell you the problem and solution in a story.
I can read and write CVC, CCVC, and CVCC words such as mat, shop, and with alone and in my writing.
I can take apart and put together word parts.
I can write a story that tells about something I did and include multiple pages with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
I can write uppercase/capital letters at the start of my sentences.
I can use the word wall to help me spell.
I can put spaces between my words and use punctuation accurately in my writing.
I can reread what I write and revise it to make more sense.
